I went grocery shopping this morning. My weekly grocery trip, I guess. I can't carry too much stuff by myself and I don't have a car, so I can't get that many things each time I go to "Star Market". I'll probably have to go every week just to survive. Heh. Survival.
I first stopped by the CVS down the street to compare prices. Most of the stuff was either the same price or slightly more expensive. The only difference is that everything in CVS comes in a smaller package. I couldn't find the ramen in Star Market, so I knew I had to buy some at CVS (ramen is a STAPLE, guys). I found the shelf with all the ramen and I grabbed 4 packs. Then I thought about it a little bit more... and grabbed another 4 packs. And that was all I bought at CVS. When I went to the self checkout, the lady next to me just stared at my stack of 8 ramen packs, probably thinking, "... college kids."
Grocery shopping is so uneventful, and I always bring my iPod for the bus stop waiting time. I like to sing if I'm the only one there (which is most of the time). I'm a crraazyyyy~!
I think my body isn't used to going to sleep at regular times anymore. It doesn't know what to do if I'm not sleep deprived, so it likes to just... fall over on the bed and sleep in the middle of the day. I wouldn't even call these 2 hour long 'sleeps' naps. They're not naps. They come with dreams and I get all hot cause I slept in walking clothes. Today I had a horrible nightmare.
Evan was a kidnapper. And not just a kidnapper, a child rapist. He had a gang that would drive around in a van and kidnap, I guess. It was my family's job to catch him. So we climbed into his van and I just started YELLING at him. Just like yelling and yelling and yelling and yelling. And the whole dream was me yelling. When I woke up, I felt like such a horrible person.
I'm pretty sure the dream was influenced by how much yelling happens in this house. The landlady yells at her daughter all the time (like any asian mom would), but she also yells at her own 90 year old mother. What's up with that!? It's your own mother, lady! She can barely walk up the stairs, let alone fight back! I can't even sit on the bed and read Life of Pi peacefully because there's always some kind of commotion happening. People fighting -- but mostly the landlady telling off one of her relatives. It makes me feel like I'm in middle school again, back at home, listening to my mom yelling at everyone in the house. It's not very relaxing.
Anyways, after my weirdly long afternoon nap, I got up and told myself to do something productive. So I did something I've been wanting to do ever since I got to Boston: HIT UP ALL THE COMIC BOOK SHOPS!!!
I hopped on the next bus to Harvard Square and pulled up my list of comic book store addresses on my Fetchnotes and started going for them.
1st Stop: "The Garage"
This place is a mini mall that has a small food court and some weird hipster shops. It used to be a parking garage, so there's a random ramp up the middle of the mall. That's cool. There are two comic book stores here, Anime Zakka and Newbury Comics.
Anime Zakka: disappointing. Almost all of the merch was Ghibli Studio stuff (mostly Totoro) and pretty much all of it was from China -- so, cheap quality figurines, terrible paint jobs, ugh. Don't get me wrong, I love Ghibli, but that's not the only anime out there.
Newbury Comics: better. I didn't expect much from Newbury because it's a general comic store (which means pretty much only American comics). They had a lot of cool Minecraft stuff and a bunch of super cute superhero Pop! figurines. I almost got an Adventure Time one for $10, but realized I wasn't that invested in it, so I didn't lay out the money. Newbury is a lot bigger.
I got Subway on the bottom floor of The Garage and then went out to the next place.
2nd Stop: "Million Dollar Picnic"
Apparently this is the oldest comic book store in Cambridge/Boston/not sure, but it's old. The store is very small, but it's PACKED with comics. No figurines (well, a few) but this is the store that sparked my excitement. The cashier was an old black dude in a red shirt who was very chill. I spent a ton of time in here just looking flipping through books with good cover art. It's hard to pick something to buy when you're inundated with choices. I walked out with issues #3 and #4 of the Fionna and Cake series and Volume One of the supposedly popular (according to the cashier) Saga.
Fionna and Cake are SO funny. I haven't read Saga yet.
That's it, though. I actually didn't go to many stores at all (three). Unfortunately most of the anime shops around Cambridge have been shut down because people keep pirating episodes online. Eheh. Damn.
I got home and watched some Oreimo and chatted with Joe and people.
Comic books. Yeah~.
