Day 4

Saturday May 11th, 2013 (now we're caught up with dates)

Today was move-in day. Time for me to move out of the team's apartment and into my room at some Chinese lady's house. It was a struggle, but I think we're gonna be alright.

Let me tell you what a terrible morning this was. My mom calls me at 10 AM (and after a night like last night's, I was tiiiired). I groggily pick up the phone and listened drowsily as she scolded me to call the landlady "RIGHT NOW".

The original plan was this:
Horak and I wake up whenever we wake up. We take my luggage, one for each of us (the big one for Horak cause I sure as hell ain't strong enough) and then hop on the bus down to Brighton. We come back up and chill.

What ended up happening was this:
I called the landlady and it turned out she was leaving at noon and wouldn't be back until late. She wanted me to get to the house before noon and get the keys from her before she left. Since the buses run weirdly on the weekends, I called a taxi, which arrived 15 minutes later than it should've (I waited half an hour for this goddamn taxi). Then when I finally got into the taxi, the driver asked if I knew how to get there and had me feed him directions from my phone even though he had a GPS right up front. What the hell?

I finally got to the house at 11:30ish with my purse and my little luggage dude. Then I hopped on bus 86 and got off at Harvard Square. At this point, I grabbed a donut from one of the dozens of Dunkin Donuts in the area and found a comic book store. OooooOOoooHhhh~! So things were looking up. I couldn't stay long since the bus back to the team apartment was coming so I left without really looking, but I am definitely going back to that store.

K. So I get back to the team apartment and now it's just one more luggage guy to take to the house. I wait in the light rain without an umbrella for bus 69 to get to the stop. Some chick tells me her app says it won't come for another 20 minutes even though Google Maps said it would be there in 1 minute. I end up dragging my luggage through the rain (thankfully, light rain) 15 minutes north to catch a bus all the way down to Brighton. I'm reaaaaaaal grumpy.

But alas!! I get off the bus in the right place and drag my luggage that one last stretch home. As soon as I got in, I took off my pants and laid on the mattress for literally 15 minutes.

After Skyping with Joe for a bit, I konk out for 2.5 hours. Then I spend the next 2 hours locked in my room because I'm scared of the family I'm living with. (Human interaction, Lulu no good).

At this point, I'm STARVING. But... How could I leave!? I'd have to talk with the landlady and her 11 year old kid and that grandma that's randomly there. Irrationally scared out of my wits, I devoured a pack of Gushers.

My mom calls while I'm unpacking all my clothes around 9:30... then proceeds to freak out that I haven't eaten anything except a donut. ALL. DAY. Mommm calm downnnnnnn, I'm just an idiot...

After pumping myself up to Meet The Family, I meet the family. First it's just the grandma, who was having trouble turning on the television. Then the landlady and her daughter come home and see me with my purse and jacket on.

Landlady: "You're going out right now?" (it's like already 10 at this point)
Lulu: "Well, I was just going to get something to eat and then be right back."

This won't do, she says, and offers me some food that is somehow already on the kitchen table. After declining a few times, I finally give in. It's dark outside and it's probably going to rain again if I go out and I'll most likely get lost. I end up eating with the family and she tells me a bunch of stuff about the house and her family's schedule and what not.

The little girl's name is Libby. I only know this because it's all over her door, which also has signs that say:

"No Populars!!!!" Like, OMG! Like, Totally~!!
"No Boys!!!! Only girls and moms, grandmas, and girl cousins allowed!!!!"

You know, typical 5th grade stuff on a door. Interestingly enough, there are no males in this house.

Anyways, one of the first things Libby says to me is, "Do you like Taylor Swift!?!??!!", really excitedly. I say "YES!" and she gets even more excited. Turns out this 11-year-old girl is going to a TSwift concert sometime soon. What?! 11-year-olds go to concerts!?!?!?! dafuq??

They ask me about my job at Fetchnotes, so I demonstrate the app and Libby thinks Swype is hella cool. She asks if she can play with my keyboard and I say sure, so she spends the rest of the dinner playing with my Swype on Fetchnotes and Temple Run.

I think I could get used to the house. Libby's really cute and nice. She goes to a Catholic school which she says is "psh easy" and she seems like a spunky kinda kid. I'm cool with letting her adopt me as her older sister for the summer.

After dinner, I finished cleaning up my room and setting things up. Probably gonna go to sleep early tonight so I can see what's happening around this area in the morning. Find some food that my landlady didn't cook for me. You know.
